jellyfish??

When we were at the beach a few weekends ago, M found these clear jellyfish-looking creatures all over the beach. Despite my warnings not touch them she did (because everyone else was too), and clearly (pun intended) did not get stung. Anyone know what they are? Their tentacles were separated from their bodies, so perhaps that's why they weren't a threat. M is such a creature-lover, that she was content hunting for these all afternoon.
